Glutamate And Species Rights

My dad had a sinus problem.  He fixed it with a surgery that went up his nose into his sinus and the result is that he lost his sense of smell.  Maybe it will come back, but this is the thing…

He likes the cake that I made.  He likes the saltiness in the dishes he made.  He cooks bitter melon often (which I still am planning to try making).  So would the fifth sense be the magical flavor that he would also taste?

So I will experiment with this fifth taste a little bit without and see if he realizes that he can still enjoy a spectrum of flavors.  I will update on this soon.

A change of subject.  I was taking a shower and I thought about why humans have so much power over other animals.  I thought about karma.  So if karma were involved, that means human as a species must have done something great to come to enjoy the privilege of conquering so much land on Earth.  If that is so, that means every animal species on Earth had a choice to do something truly remarkable to have such merit.  And if that is so, every species of animal is equal in intelligence and able to make choices.  So we should treat them with dignity and respect them.  We don’t understand them, but I bet they communicate and see things differently.

So we shouldn’t be arrogant to say that we are intelligent.  What if evolution creates mutants to create different species?  Does it mean that we are saying we are more intelligent than our distant cousins?  When it comes down to this, human is just a mutant of other species.
